Managing Accelerating Construction Costs Key to Successful Bond Program Delivery
As part of the Missoula County Public Schools Bond Program, all 14 MCPS Elementary Schools were to receive an additional 212,000 SF combined. The 2015 bond estimates were based on $159/SF for new construction. Due to changing market conditions, the actual cost-per-SF accelerated, averaging $220/SF – nearly 40% more. That did not mean MCPS received 40% less square footage. Through value engineering, Hulteng CCM was able to deliver 209,000 SF of growth with equal or better materials.
